Abstract
This study aimed to present a dc rapid charging station architecture with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality in a micro-grid facility to support power production from intermittent renewable energy sources. The research constructed a dc fast charging station utilizing off-board chargers and a grid-connected inverter linked via a dc bus, incorporating a solar photo-voltaic array, a step-up transformer, and an LCL filter. MATLAB/Simulink simulations evaluated the performance of the model, employing a constant current control technique with proportional-integral controllers to manage battery charging and discharging modes. The simulation findings demonstrated active power regulation by electric vehicle batteries through grid-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-g2v modes of operation, showing power transfer between electric vehicles and the grid. Test findings indicated that the controller provided dynamic performance regarding dc bus voltage stability, which was regulated at 1500 V, while the total harmonic distortion of the grid-injected current was obtained as 2.31%. The article concludes that the developed system achieves seamless power transfer, complies with relevant regulations for current quality, and performs well dynamically in monitoring active power reference and maintaining dc bus voltage stability.
